Watching Rebekka Löffler’s work develop from close-by over a number of years offered an uncommon insight into the decision making of the artist. From tentative beginnings, decisions are shaped by intuition and pushing forward. Ideas come about by anticipating the unpredictable. From general colour, to idiomatic, breathing, weightless colour - from standard form, to specific, breathing, complex form. This uncertain territory offers the artist absolute freedom to stake her claim. With contentious ingredients which challenge the materiality of paint on canvas - luminosity, swagger, fragmentation, abstraction, evanescence – she claims contents for painting which are all too often disapproved of.
