Born 1985 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. Lives and works in Cologne.

Rebekka Loeffler’s artistic works reflect on various essential aspects of human and non-human life, its transformation through digital technologies and ecological issues, as well as the interconnectedness of different forms of life on planet Earth. She brings these in connection with her own experience and perception of ‘being in the world’ and translates them into a personal language of colour and form. They are developed in preparatory drawings and three-dimensional paper models and are finally implemented in mainly large-sized paintings. In addition, in recent years, she also created drawings, occasional installations, and sculptures in ceramics and aluminium.

The focus of her most recent works has been around themes that address the interconnectedness and the processes of different realms on planet Earth. On the one hand, they deal with the relationships of humans with the earth, the environment, and other living beings —particularly with questions of production in respect of both reproduction and new linkages between different species. On the other hand, they address the human language and its translation as well as transmission by technical means into an endless and global flow of information and communication. Her earlier works were inspired by internal human processes – including processes of thinking, feeling, and remembering – and they thematized questions about the localization of a human being and the interpersonal relationships they have with others.

She approaches these themes in her works through a working method that links thoughts, feelings, and visual impressions that are triggered by an idea. By doing so, she intends to incorporate the multi-layered levels of human perception into the development of her works. They are described by concepts like entanglement, complexity, permeability, movement, rhythm, growth, and transformation, both in terms of content and form. They provide an answer to all the questions underlying her works about the definition of the world and its multifaceted nature.
